The coast surrounding this expansive promontory seems permanently bathed in a pink-hued, pearly light, providing a painterly contrast to the sea, which softens from intense to powder blue as the evening draws in. It’s one of Italy’s most beautiful corners, encompassing white limestone cliffs, fairy-tale grottoes, sparkling sea, ancient forests, rare orchids and tangled, fragrant maquis (dense scrub vegetation). The Gargano Promontory, 80 km far from Villa Gioia, offers a diverse environment with a variety of interesting places to visit. The coastline offers one of the most fantastic and picturesque beaches of the south Italy, and among those, the Baia delle Zagare (Zagara Bay) is one of the most suggestive and fascinating.
Inland you’ll find a national park, The Foresta Umbra, and medieval towns: Monte Sant’Angelo in the highest point on the promontory has a charming and picturesque historic center, a castle, the Tancredi Museum of Traditional Life, 13th-century frescoes in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, and the interesting and popular pilgrimage Sanctuary of the Archangel Michael where you can visit the grotto and two museums.
Vico Garganico is a little interesting medieval town with many small alleyways and remains of its castle.
Vieste, on the tip of the peninsula, has many seaside resorts and an interesting historic center with lots of staircases. Fromm Vieste, you can rent a small boat or go aboard one of several daily guided boat trips to the sea caves of the Gargano. Carved into ocean cliffs, the caves, many of which contain hidden beaches, offer picturesque scenery and a real sense of adventure
Rodi Garganico has a well-kept medieval quarter, a modern harbour, and is known for its lemon and orange groves. In the summer, it’s a point of departure for hydrofoils going to THE TREMITI ISLANDS, group of tiny islands in the Adriatic Sea and a popular destination for Italian vacationers. The archipelago of the Tremiti Islands is a small corner of paradise, where the transparency of the sea enhances the seabed and the underwater walls that are just waiting to be explored. The pleasant climate, the pure air, the luxuriant vegetation, the uncontaminated nature, the coast with suggestive caves create zones of an ethereal beauty which no passionate about the sea and nature should resist.
